Deu na Imprensa - Transport plan unveiled for Expo

Shanghai Daily - 08/01/2010

Shanghai will cut the use of private and official cars during Expo and may ban cars from the roads on alternate days, as Beijing did during the Olympic Games, officials announced today. City traffic authorities unveiled detailed traffic plans during the six-month-long Expo, aiming at ensuring that 90 percent of the 600,000 expected daily visitors will reach the Expo site by public transport.

"The basic idea is to provide a fast route to the event as well as keep daily regular traffic in order," said an official with a research team organized by the city government. The plan was drafted by at least five government departments and agencies including traffic, transport, port and traffic police. Up to 50 percent of visitors are expected to reach the site via subway, 40 percent by bus and the rest by other means like ferries and taxis. The complete plan has been put online (www.eastday.com/www.shucm.sh.cn) for public opinion.
