Mensagem do Prefeito de São Paulo para a Expo Xangai

Eliminating urban eyesores

"Better City, Better Life". This is the objective that all should pursue with determination, objectivity, method and technology. Local governments have expanded their responsibility on issues with global outreach. Improving quality of life in urban centers implies, more and more, contributing to a better quality of life in the whole world. World Expo 2010 Shanghai shall be the greatest stage in recent years to exchange successful experiences, bringing excellent opportunities for cities.

Sao Paulo has been adopting public policies that contribute, in an effective way, to sustainable development. We have implemented the Clean City Law to battle visual pollution. It is an internationally recognized law that has not only improved the city's image, but has also given us the fourth place among the chosen cities to participate on Expo 2010 Shanghai. We are also the first Brazilian city to have a specific legislation on climate change.

In 2010, when the entire world will meet in Shanghai, Sao Paulo City will learn, encounter new projects, bring lessons back home and show, as the largest city in South America, how it has worked to promote development in a way that contributes to build a better world for all.
