'Climate Summit for Mayors' to be held in Copenhagen

Event to take place in parallel to UN climate change conference (COP15) - 14 – 17 December 2009

Mayors from more than 55 cities around the world will gather in Copenhagen for the ‘Climate Summit for Mayors’, which is being held alongside the UN Climate Change Conference (COP15) in December. Cities are one of the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions. Half the world's population now live in cities and the number is growing rapidly. Cities therefore play a crucial role in addressing the climate crisis. The Climate Summit for Mayors is being hosted by the City of Copenhagen, in cooperation with the C40 and ICLEI. The summit will be attended by mayors from Jakarta,  Johannesburg, Toronto, Buenos Aires, Los Angeles, London and other cities around the world.
